We love doing kids book activities at our house! It’s so much fun to do a picture walk together through the book, read it together, and then to create some fun arts and crafts, sensory activities, and snacks that go along with the book!
For this book review, we decided to read a book about grass for kids, so we decided to read one of our favorite books: In the Tall, Tall Grass by Denise Fleming. We had so much fun exploring with this book! Come join us for some fun!

In The Tall, Tall Grass {Book about Grass for Kids}
First, we read the book and explored the beautiful illustrations cover to cover. Then we decided to have some real fun!
I decided to send Mason outside to cut some grass, so we could make our own real grass sensory kit.
The feel of the dew on the grass, the softness of the blades, and the smell of the fresh cut grass created the ultimate sensory experience. We just added in some small pretend insects we had around the house and he played for a long time!

After Mason played in his grass bin and explored the grass, we decided to do some artwork of our own. I gave Mason a blank sheet of paper and asked him to draw some of the insects he saw in the book. He drew as many as he could from memory {which is great for comprehension} and the rest he drew by interacting with the book.
After he was done drawing his insects and other creatures, we decided to reuse the grass from the sensory kit to create a real life feel to his artwork. He glued the blades of grass right there on his paper, re-creating his own tall, tall grass, just like the story!
And here was his final product:
I really hope you and your little reader decide to check out the book, In the Tall, Tall Grass and have fun creating your own sensory bin and art work!
