5. I Like Bugs by Margaret Wise Brown. This is a Step 1 book for Step into Reading, making it easy for your young reader to read independently. The story contains rhymes, rhythms, and repetition in big, bold type. What I like most about this book is that the sentences are short and the words match the picture, giving the child a reading strategy to decode unfamiliar words.
